Career Partners brought back its Manufacturing Day career exploration event this year with a new focus on both manufacturing and construction. Eighth grade students from both Culpeper middle schools spent the day visiting local businesses to learn about a variety of careers and industries firsthand. Students began the day with a tour of the construction site at Culpeper Middle School, where they got an up-close look at the building process. They also visited Rochester Cable to see fiber and cable manufacturing in action. In the afternoon, students visited Cabinet Works, where they learned about the manufacturing process from inventory management to the day-to-day decisions that keep operations running. Students also had the opportunity to get hands-on by assisting with cabinet assembly. Fun with Cedar Mountain Stone took the students through the quarrying process, the many uses of stone products, and the operations of sister company Chemung Construction. Students put their new knowledge to the test with a creative challenge to build a road using food products while considering materials, strength, and planning.
The event provided students with an engaging, hands-on look at local career opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in manufacturing and construction.
