Career Partners expanded its Career Exploration programming in 2021 with the launch of Healthcare Day, an event designed to introduce students to the wide range of careers available within the healthcare industry.
Offered in partnership with UVA Culpeper Medical Center, Healthcare Day reaches approximately 300 students from Culpeper County’s two high schools each year through a virtual format. The program gives students a unique look inside areas of the hospital they might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience while introducing them to the many professionals whose roles contribute to patient care and hospital operations.
Throughout the event, UVA Culpeper Medical Center professionals share their expertise and experiences from areas including pharmacy, laboratory services, imaging, nursing, rehabilitation, hospital administration, and more. Students gain insight into the education and skills required for different positions while hearing firsthand what it is like to work in healthcare.
Healthcare Day helps students see that a career in healthcare can take many forms, extending well beyond the roles they may encounter during a typical visit to a doctor’s office or hospital. By connecting students directly with local healthcare professionals, the program provides an opportunity to explore potential career pathways while learning about a field that plays an important role in the Culpeper community.
